TOILET BOMBS

Our environment group were so thrilled to see their photo had made it to the newspaper this week and also that Mandy Robertson from the Dolphin Research Institute had put photos on her blog about our school’s Ocean Day activities.

So an action from our inquiry into Oceans was to be more aware of what goes down our drains.  Toilet cleaners and any cleaners head straight to our Oceans once they have been through a filter system.  We know that anything that goes down a drain will eventually end up in our Bay and Oceans;  so we made some toilet bombs.   We are going to use these to clean toilets instead of using all those nasty chemicals that are easy to reach for in the supermarket; it was easy and fun.  We made our own cleaning product!!!!

Year 5 and 6 Visit to St.Kilda Pier

Our visit to St.Kilda Beach provided a great opportunity for students to see first hand some of the shorebirds that migrate from Australia to Russia, or at least hear about their stories.  Gio drew maps in the sand that showed the ancient invisible pathways that birds take as they migrate from one end of the earth to the other, like Jeannie Baker writes about in her book Circle.  We learnt about how if you look quietly and respectful you can find wildlife in our urban environment.  That little penguins live right next to us in our busy city world.  We had to stop, move quietly, be respectful and we were rewarded with seeing these special animals that exist right here in Melbourne.  Please leave your comments here about our day.
